Porter Olsen

Porter Olsen is an instructor in the English department at the University of Maryland, College Park where he teaches courses primarily on the intersection of digital technologies and writing. Porter has contributed to a number of Digital Humanities projects as a graduate assistant and as a faculty researcher at the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities (MITH). Digital Humanities projects to which Porter has contributed to include BitCurator, O Say Can You See, Researching Ferguson, and the Shelly-Godwin Digital Archive. Porter’s research interests include the preservation and access of literary born-digital materials, with a specific focus on the digital archives of Salman Rushdie and Gabriel García Márquez.

Before graduate school, Porter worked as product manager for a Linux distribution developer and was a contributing member of the United Linux initiative.
